Singular and Plural Words
Jay – Tarika, please pass me the books.
Tarika – Jay, there is only one book, so you should say “Please pass me the book”
But when there are two or more, then you should say “books” – add an ‘s’ in the end to make it plural.
- Book – books
- Car – cars
- Chair – chairs
- Bag – bags
Jay – Ok. Should I put all my books in the SHELFS
Tarika – It is not “Shelfs.” The plural of “shelf” is SHELVES. To get the plural of words ending in ‘f’, replace ‘f’ with ‘v-e-s’.
- leaf – leaves
- Loaf – loaves
- Half – halves
Jay – Alright! Do you know there are billions of Galaxy in our universe?
Tarika – Since there is more than one galaxy, plural will be ‘Galaxies’. To get the plural of words ending in ‘y’, replace ‘y’ with ‘i-e-s’.
- Party – parties
- Opportunity – opportunities
- lady – ladies
Jay – There are so many bus in the parking lot.
Tarika – Since there is more than one bus in the parking lot, the plural will be buses.
To get the plural of words ending in s/ss/ch/sh/x, we add ‘es’ in the end to make it plural.
- Bus – buses
- Church – churches
- Brush – Brushes
- Fox – foxes
